Beautiful People

Our racial hatred is almost as black as these people that cops are killin on the streets as I get my filling on train wrecks made from murders I can't stand on my feet to see this goin on any longer please make it stop I can't breathe

I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I CANNOT BREATHE

My legs will turn to logs before black killing will stop so I stoop low so you can see my grief when George Zimmerman was released
I need to know
If that night when they said that he was free to go
Poor Trayvon Martin turned over in his grave
Because I could've sworn I heard his coffin scraping
When his killer was sent to jail for-

His killer was never sent to jail

I speak in rhymes through these troubled times because if I don't I'm worried that it might not stick like the tasers in these peoples backs for blacks it's not safe to live outside  white comfort zones
of racial injustice
of social injustice
of black killings
of all these things
of late

I've been seeing Eric garner in my dreams and the men that kept him in headlock till he couldn't breathe are locked in my head
They turn these daydreams of peace into nightmares my restless sleep goes unjustified like this justice I keep my fear to myself as I walk down the street it's not protection I feel. Hell, safety's obsolete when the police arrive on the scene of me doin nothing I still feel paranoid.

And I'm white.

A lack of love licks like flames from fires in the hearts of these beautiful people
Internal bonfires cannot be doused by any means of explanation when mike brown gets shot down with his hands raised I'm not complaining
But the move theater still ain't as graphic as the L.A. Police station
Can you hear what I'm saying?!?

I'm praying-

No, I'm PREACHING to my choir of restless angles that there have been  times in our lives
Where good men dress like law men
And make mistakes they can't mend
It's not their fault but if then how can these crimes just go unspoken like the lines I haven't wrote when will these beautiful people be avenged or at least remembered or at least honored or at least spoken for like my spoken words

I'm speechless
I'm white
And I'm ready for the night
When these beautiful people will not die

Because you all have the wrong Idea about beauty

Because,

Having a heart makes you a human being

And,

Making it beat means your life is so worth keeping

Because,

We are all just beautiful people
sleeping

And I think it's time that we woke up
