Beauty
I found peace the day I learned to love me,
And let how others looked be,
Even though we
Have chosen fake over real beauty.
I found the truth when I was just growing,
Learning, being, living,
Teaching myself the skill of changing
To fantasy what was really happening.
Learning Photoshop had me overjoyed,
But soon enough I chose to get employed,
And soon enough I had destroyed
The joy I had previously enjoyed.
The job was to aesthetically change
A model, which I found strange,
Because had a figure for which I’d have gladly exchanged
My own, so it seemed totally deranged.
But then, darker thoughts began to whisper,
What if I should have her figure?
Or her simper?
My self-esteem began to sink deeper and deeper.
I spent years trying to imitate those girls,
With their white smiles and blonde curls,
All of their impossible curves
Even though it was I who had forged those pearls.
I made them fake, so I made them real
And society accepted with zeal
The notion of a girl so surreal
That they could no longer recognize the real deal.
However, eventually there came a day,
When I realized it was they
Who were leading the world astray,
Who truly deserved to pay.
However, I chose instead to find some peace
And make my own self-hate cease,
By realizing I was not obese,
And just like that, I found release.
I found peace the day I learned to love me,
And let how others looked be,
Even though we
Have chosen fake over real beauty.
I am the girl who chose to be
A proponent of that real beauty.
