BEAUTY

This poem is dedicated to Sofia; may we find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis so her love can bless the earth forever.

In a place far far away there was a righteous princess,

her brilliance shined triumphantly through all she did.

A witch full of darkness cursed the princess,

And instilled a beast within her.

Still, the selfless princess persevered.

The beast inside her took her childhood,

Robbed her health,

And shunned her to a white clinical castle.

Her lungs were held within the chains of the beast,

Marked with a cryptic CF.

Yet the inspiring princess fought on.

The castle was filled with many servants,

But the servants all donned sterile scrubs.

Many times the princess endured surgeries,

To try and release the beast.

But still, the brave princess persisted.

In moments of hardship

The princess remained determined.

Her faith never once wavering within herself

The townspeople watched in awe,

As the pure princess always pushed through.

In a tower the princess remained tangled

In hoses and treatment plans.

Those around the princess learned from her grace

As she was wise beyond her age.

The young princess taught through her hardships.

A single rose stood by the princess.

The race for a cure marked

With each petal dropping.

The beast could take everything

Except for the princess’s heart.

To this day the hopeful princess moves forward.

One day a prince dressed in a white coat will come

Bearing a sword to slay the beast:

The cure.

When this happens, he will find the princess

Surrounded by those she touched in her battle.

Until then the wise princess will wait.

She will continue to prosper despite her battle with the beast.

The beauty defines the princess, not her beast.
