Beauty Following Destruction

Through chaos and pain, I kept my chin held high

When the sun set and the moon broke free from its cavern, I told the day goodbye

For the longest time, I did not approve of who I was

Nobody understood and nobody still does

Once I found myself, I noticed that I adored my flaws

And there wasn't really anything wrong with me, I was being silly

Looking in the mirror, my eyes suddenly became large and oceanic

Like a tidal wave crashing against a harsh gray sky

My natural flowing hair cascading over my shoulders, shimmering all its own

I wasn't unsure, I finally understood that though I'm different, I'm beautiful and I accepted it

Welcomed it without hesitation

Jovial can't describe my feelings, I'm sure that no words in the world can

Except perhaps happy, the one word I've always been terrified of
