Beauty from within

My name is cygnet

but others often refer to me as the ugly duckling

Everyone is born different; some differences may be more prominent than others

but we’re all made equal

Throughout life you realize that

all of us are not treated equal

The ducklings with their

bright yellow feathers and

peach toned beaks

faced little to no discrimination on how they looked, well, because: they all look the same.

I, on the other hand, with my

grey feathers and

light charcoal beak,

was mocked and mistreated daily

I had reached a breaking point and took it upon myself to hide away

The thing about being a ducking is that eventually,

you grow out of your

bright yellow feathers and

peach toned beak

and well, you become a duck

which aren’t the prettiest of things

Their cruel hearts eventually flourish and the beauty that is lacked on the inside, becomes what you truly are on the outside.

I used my time alone to grow within myself

Inside of me is where I found the truth to happiness

Once you step away from the pressure of society, you grow into your true self

from the inside

out.

Beauty is not in vanity

but is in what lies within you.

My name was cygnet

I am now swan
