Because
I always wanted to write a poem,
Watch my words grow on my page like a blossom in spring.
But I never did,
Because no one told me that I could.
I always wanted to sing a song,
Hear my voice echo off the walls and know that I made such a godly sound.
But I never did,
Because someone told me that I had it wrong.
I always wanted to be the president,
Heal the broken nation and once more restore justice to the world.
But I never did,
Because they told me that I wouldn’t make it.
I always wanted to speak up,
Let people know that I had something to say.
And so I did,
Because I told them that I can.
