Because

Because I love you, I’ve always cared

Always wanted to see a smile on your face

Always wanted you to be happy

            No matter the cost

Because I love you, I worry about you

I know it’s not my job

But I have to be sure that you’re okay

Even if checking on you is damaging to me

Because I love you, I came running when you called

I opened my arms to you

            I handed you my heart

Hoping this time, it would be enough

Because I love you, I hurt for months

I let you pull me back and forth

I let you see how much I wanted you

Because you knew how much I loved you

Because I love you, I want nothing but the best for you

And as much as I’d like for that to be me

Because I love you, I understand if it’s not

Because I love you, I don’t want to lose you

But because I love myself, maybe it’s time to let you go
