Because He Loves Me

Don't tell me who to be.

Don't tell me what to do.

I won't listen to you.

You tell me how to be smart.

You tell me how to be pretty.

But I think all your efforts are vain and petty.

I do not measure myself on your scale.

I do not want to be your model of perfection.

Nobody's perfect. So don't look for it in your reflection.

I won't listen to your words, world.

I won't hear your comments, mirror.

When I look away from you, everything is made clearer.

I am funny and beautiful.

I am generous and sweet.

I have my own story, and I am really quite neat.

I am helpful and decisive.

I am thoughtful and caring.

I am these things, no matter how I look, or what I am wearing.

I am loved.

I am cherished.

I am special.

I am smart.

To know these things, I just had to look in my heart.

These things were put there by my creator.

Your comments grow dim because his are far greater.

It is clear now, who I am.

He loves me, just the way I am.

I see now, the woman he has made me to be.

I am my own picture of perfection because he loves me.
