Because He Loves Me

It's because he loves me that he drives me around when my heart is broken,

and makes me dinner when he realizes I haven't eaten at all.

It's because he loves me that he let me have his car when mine stopped working,

and spent hours finding the perfect pot of flowers for my birthday.

It's because he loves me that he lets me call myself his dog's mommy,

and take up space in his room with my things.

It's because he loves me that he turns off the sad movies when they make me too sad,

and poses for me to take his picture, even though he hates being in pictures.

It's because  he loves me that he buys extra food even when I say I'm not hungry,

because he knows I'm actually lying.

It's because he loves me that he trusts me when I hang out with other guys,

and doesn't get jealous when I tell him how much fun I had.

It's because he loves me that he asks how my day was every single night,

and doesn't push the conversation if I seem upset and distant.

Healthy love isn't weekly care packages and expensive dates,

at least not to me.

I once thought that to be in love meant to be in debt,

but with his help I'm learning that to be in love really just means

to be in love.
