Because I am Free
Because I met you
I truly felt happy,
Because I let you
I finally felt safe,
Because I trusted
I really felt pain,
Because I loved you
I always stayed.
When I saw you
I knew I was safe,
When I felt you
I knew I was strong,
I was scared
And you were my comfort,
Because I was hurt
And you were healing.
Then when you left
I was lost and felt empty,
Because you left
I felt useless and weak,
And every time you left
I came back.
And then I saw
What you really were,
That happy was an illusion,
The safety was your trick,
The pain was your fuel,
I stayed, scared and small,
Because you prayed on it all.
When I saw you
You felt power,
When I felt you
You felt needed,
When I was scared
You gave me reasons to stay,
When I was hurt
It made your day.
But then I left.
I screamed and I cried
But I pushed you away,
I felt nothing inside
Because of your play,
I was sick and but still healing
From your mental abuse.
Now,
I am free from your grip
And free from your words,
I can see what you are
And how bad that you hurt,
But I left and I'm better
Than I ever could be,
Without you,
I wouldn't be me.
