Because I do

I always avoid these three simple words,’ I love you’

I don’t know why, maybe I’m just another shy guy

But someday I will buy you Lavender and red roses

Pick you from work to spend on things we don’t even need

Like Frozen yoghurt and a 90’s romantic movie at a drive in

Just to justify why my ex-girlfriend calls me a Sly Guy

And you will be blown by it but I still won’t tell

Someday, when you out-talk me in arguments

I will have to kiss you in the middle of your long speech

Maybe that will be loud enough for you to listen

Maybe it’s all we need, focus and energy- then freedom

Or is it because at times… most of the time

We argue about stupid and weird stuff

Like who’s food tastes best or who eats most

And you would use all the words to defend yourself

Before you ask, who cares…? We live for the moment

Bet you should know I care when I walk in to an empty kitchen

Such are the moments I wish you were part already

Joyfully out-singing the song on the speaker

You’d be wagging your body side to side

Before I’d hug you from behind… such are the moments

You’d get short of breath and I’d lack the words

Just like all the time you come over for a movie

You’d cuddle with my hair and ask me how I feel

And I will tell you how I feel about the movie

Just because I’m too shy to express what I feel

Love eventually makes you smile and hold on to me tighter

With hopes that someday, I will be bold enough

Bold enough, not to avoid three simple words

Bold enough to admit, I do love you.
