Because I Love Him

I was told long ago by a man I loved to

Smile more, I looked dead when I wasn’t.

I was told long ago by a man I loved to

Lose weight, I looked like a deceased whale

I was told long ago by a man I loved to

Wash the dishes, get his dinner and bring him a beer

I was told long ago by a man I loved to

Get in bed, he wanted to be pleased

I was told long ago by a man I loved to

Tell my family that I fell down the stairs

I was told long ago by a man I loved to

Shut the hell up or else he would make me shut up

I was told long ago by a man I loved to

Say I loved him too

I was told by the man of today to

Choose my own beliefs

I was told by the man of today to

Love myself for who and what I am

I was told by the man of today to

Not worry about dinner when I got home, he had already prepared it

I was told by the man of today to

Lay down, I want to lie next to you

I was told by the man of today to

Tell my family he was coming on the annual trip

I was told by the man of today to

Speak my mind and express my feelings

I was told my the man of today to

Never worry because he loved me

And I love him.
