Because I Love Myself

Because I love myself, I am able to hold such love for you.

I know what I deserve and I know my worth,

I know I deserve someone who will respect me, value me, protect me, and embrace me.

I know when to walk away without implying that I gave up on us

If you tell me that I cannot leave you because no one else will want me,

I know that you are lying,

I know I deserve to be loved despite my imperfections and mistakes.

I value your vulnerability just as if I was holding mine,

I value you for being authentic with your virtues and imperfections.

I do not need to demean you to make me feel superior or worthy

I respect your moments of solitude and reflection.

I am not afraid to let you free because if you love me, you will be by my side

I do not cling my happiness or worthiness on your soul because such responsibility belongs to me.

We support each other's’ ambitions and dreams,

We cherish our accomplishments and fight through our adversities.

We uplift each other when the world appears to be against us

We strive to be the best versions of ourselves.

We each have our independent goals, likes, and interests and may not always agree, yet

We always find something that transcends all our differences and brings us together.

Self-love is the binding factor and foundation of our relationship.

Self-love does not involve being arrogant or selfish,

It is the starting point from which we find respect for ourselvs

And by virtue of that respect, we relate to our neighbor.

So never forget that because I love myself, I am able to love you.
