Because I Love You

Because I Love You

Because I love you, I will spend most of my time in constant conversation,

Helping you sort out what to wear to class tomorrow and what song to play next.

Because I love you, I will stand up and speak when the words are pulling you down, when the world is cruel to the one person who deserves more than the universe.

Because I love you, I barely sleep,

Up all night trying to convince you that everything will eventually blow over,

will bring everything back to the smiles and happy sobs of the past.

Because I love you, I pick up what you can no longer carry,

Taking your burdens and making them ours.

Because I love you, I listen to every song you send,

Aware that it is more than merely a song, but a hidden message underlying the catchy beats.

Because I love you, I listen to every word you say like the sound of a warm spring day,

Birds chirping and a soft breeze, perfection, something I never want to miss a second of.

Because I love you, we share laughter and feelings,

It is forbidden to go through anything alone.

Because I love you, you are my diary,

I trust your little metal lock to never rust and break off;

My secrets and feelings are their safest in the files of your memory;

Your judgement is as soft as the paper on which I write my notions.

Because I love you, I have grown from a small seed that was lost in the busy dirt

To a flourishing flower, not afraid to tower over the rest since I have you to keep me up when the wind blows and almost topples me over.

Because I love you, I cherish the time we spend together and dread the day when we can no longer meet face to face.

Because I love you, I am the cushion on your couch,

I rest uncomfortably so that you are able to relax at the end of the day.

Worrying ends when the caring starts.

Because I love you, leaving when times get rough is not something that crosses our minds.

We fight like warriors through the depression and heartbreaks,

We celebrate when we overcome with a smorgasbord of elegant fast food and sweets to rot our teeth with the bittersweet taste of conquering our hardships together.

Because I love you, this poem may end but our friendship will continue for light-years.
