Because I Love You

Mon, 10/30/2017 - 16:21 -- MaeV

When you say that you love me

My heart walks across the sky

You talk about forever together

Please tell me one more time

I need to hear it

Say you'll never change

Say you'll never leave

Because I Love You

Words that warm my heart

You brought heaven to my hell

Brought air to the ocean where I was drowning

"Because I Love You"

You gave me the assurance I needed

The attention I craved

Words I said thousands of times only to myself

"Because I Love You"

Every day, every spring, every winter

What was my shield became the sword that stabbed my heart

"Because I Love You" Became a curse

Words that once warmed now burned

Searing into my head, a brand of your betrayal

You said you'd never change

You said you'd never leave

Now I realize

You only spoke words

Not promises

Because I Loved You

Everything became meaningless

I do not long for you

I do not miss you

Your love that you gave me

I don’t want to remember it

Truly I loved you

That’s how much harder it is

I want to hate you

But I can’t so I hate you even more

My heart does not walk across the sky

It trudges on the ground with everyone else

I am not drowning, but it is hard to breathe

I cannot tread water forever

Someday someone else with tell me

"Because I Love You"

The words will come slow and soft, gently warming, gently prodding

Gently lifted our of the ocean into the air

I'm walking across the sky

I tell myself

"Because I Love You"
