Because I love you
Because I love you, I know fear. Fear of loss, fear of disquieting, fear that one day you won’t be here.
Because I love you, I know pain. I know the feeling of remorse as my not so kind words leave my teeth and stab you in the gut.
Because I love you, I know forgiveness. Not only for you, but for myself. Though the words I say show damage, you pick me up, put a band-aid over my heart, and say “let’s try that again.”
Because I love you, I know kindness. I know to think about the lonely and broken. I know to show compassion to those who live in excuse for being different, or are simply just having a bad day.
Because I love you, I know love. I know not everyday will be filled with sunshine and fairy dust. I know there will be days you don’t feel up to giving your all. I know there are going to be some days you’d rather not wake up. And that’s okay. I will be there to hold you a little tighter that day. Because I love you.
