Because I Love You

"I don't want you to linger around" he says.

"Right after the bell, come to the bus."

Confused I ask him why I shouldn't.

"Because I love you, without me,

you can't have fun"

"Because I love you" he states to me,

"You cannot sit with your friends."

I start to protest, but then he shouts,

"So you don't love me then?"

I accept his request with tears in my eyes.

Before I had someone else,

Now I am all alone with the one I love,

in exchange for that, I get no one else.

"I saw you in the library with that guy."

"I'm telling you, I was tutoring him."

"Well, now you'll stop going to the library,

as well as tutoring kids."

"I need my hours, though!" I protest to him,

in pain from his fierce grasp.

"But don't you love me, Emily?" he states.

"I know you'll love me back."

Love. A 4 letter word.

Everyone knows what it is.

But what happens when love becomes outta control.

Maybe, becomes a weapon.

"Because I love you I am doing this,"

He says to me through my sobs.

He lights my house up into flames.

As my bruised body wails for justice.
