Because I Love You
Because I love you
I will kneel
Out of respect for those who fight.
The violence shaking from my raised enclosed fist
Will not be released,
But I will stand in solidary
For my brothers and sisters.
I will let the clarity of my actions
Be louder than my voice.
United, we strive for excellence.
Motivated by love and patience
Constructing a path of less resistance,
We can create peace.
Because I love you
I will hold your hand.
I will stand by your side
Even if they spill red from our sides
And let the gunshots
Start the conversation
That screams finish.
I will re-stitch the false promises of redemption.
I have seen the world in its downfall
Through a tinted window that shades the truth
Media distortion televises problematic youth
But does not address the actual problem.
Because I love you
I will protect you
From the chaos in the streets.
The civil war has not been declared
Because society is unaware
Of the disconnect between
Us and them.
There is a confusion that dwells
In the depths of ignorance.
Insight is forbidden in this land;
It is a sin to address injustice.
Stop all that thinking they say,
“We want you to trust us.”
Because I love you,
I will sing the soul
Back into those that
Forgot about the vocal vibrations
That ring under the flagpole.
The people they punish
Created the foundation of this country
Now they weep and wallow
as they’re denied re-entry.
Because I love you,
I will bend and break
The barriers that hold back
The evidence of our cultures
And mark the end of terrorism
With a permanence so strong
It can only be faded by a Godly interaction.
I will build you a stage
And let you rise to the occasion.
I will leave it dark
Because you can light up a room.
Because I love you,
I will stay.
I have let injustice consume me,
But I will not leave you
To clean up this war.
This is our fight.
Because I love you,
I am here.
