Because I Love You

“It’s because I love you”

He screamed, the words forced through his teeth

As he pushed tears from my eyes

And watched them fall down my cheeks

“Because I love you”

He yelled, as he walked through the door

Leaving me broken and alone

Reaching for more

“I love you”

He said, pressing my back against the bed

As he took another bite out of my life

While whispering sweet nothings into my head

“Love you”

He whispered, his hand tangled in my hair

As he tried convincing me to stay—

Telling me that he cared

“You”

I whispered back, “Had more than enough time

To show me that you loved me

But you could never do it right”

“Love you”

She says, for the very first time

With a smile upon her face

As her hand reaches for mine

“I love you”

She laughs, as she dusts kisses upon my cheeks

Filling me with happiness and warmth

That lasts me for weeks

“Because I love you”

She replies, after I ask her why

She wants a text from me

Saying I made it home all right

“It’s because I love you”

She beams, as she goes on to say

“That’s the reason I want you in my life

Every night and every day”
