Because I Love You

I can’t wait to feel nervous when you walk by,

To feel butterflies when all you do is look me in the eyes,

To stutter when I speak before you,

Or to smile secretly when you walk away.

I can’t wait for the mornings when I wake up and the first thing I think about is you.

I can’t wait to think of you before I fall asleep

And continue to dream of you even if I don’t know it,

Because even then, you would give me anything but nightmares, you’d deliver me to safety.

I can’t wait for you to dream of me too

And tell me about it the next day so that laughter can be the first sound we hear,

Instead of screams.

I can’t wait to make you smile, to know what it feels like to make you happy,

I can’t wait to love you.

I can’t wait to know how it feels to have your arms thrown around me, instead of at me,

To read your messages and have them bring me up instead of down.

I can’t wait for you to encourage me to explore galaxies because the sky is not the limit but only as far as we can see.

I can’t wait for you to tell me, ‘because I love you pass all the stars and back’ and for me to say the same without hesitation

Because we both know that ‘because I love you to the moon that is only 238,900 miles away and back’ just isn’t enough.

I can’t wait for you to say “I’ll wait for you” instead of “I want to have you now” because you know that I am not something that can simply be given or taken

But I am a human being with feelings that must be respected,

With trust that must be earned,

With principles that both of us must value,

With love that mustn't be taken for granted when received

Because you know that if I love,

I love with every piece, every slice, every fraction of my heart

Finally, I can’t wait to meet you

Because I already love you.
