Because I Love You
When you say I love you to the girl
With the luscious caramel brown hair,
And those jade green eyes that fill
With such an intensity when she stares,
She won’t believe you.
When you say I love you to the boy
That smiles when you walk by,
And has that laugh that makes the dark night
Fill with light in the sky,
He won’t believe you.
When you stand in front of the full size mirror,
Scrutinizing every inch of your body
Looking for imperfections on a flawless work of art,
You suddenly realize why she didn’t believe you
Why he didn’t believe you
When you said I love you.
Because she loves you more than you love yourself.
Because he loves you more than you love yourself.
Because you don’t know how to love yourself.
So when you realize this
After learning who you are,
And what you’re worth,
You’ll say I love you to the girl
With the mocha brown skin.
She will grin wider than the ocean
And she’ll believe you.
Because you love you,
And because I love you too.
