Because I Love You

I never understood why they would fight all day,

Why he thought getting drunk would make all the problems go away,

Why she never acted upon what she would say,

Why they would talk about problems when neither of them was willing to change.

They could never compromise.

I couldn't understand.

We are not our parents.

We can choose to be better.

The day you were born, I promised you would never have to understand

Why your parents would fight all day,

Why daddy thought getting drunk would make all the problems go away,

Why mommy never acted upon what she would say,

Why they would talk about problems when neither of them was willing to change.

It simply won't happen.

They will compromise.

Because We Love You, we choose to be better.
