Because I Love You

Beware of the four-letter word

One used too often,

Despite rarely ever in proper context

Beware of the four-word phrase

That hardly justifies your lover’s wrong-doings

But patches a bandage over your mouth

While your heart bleeds empty

Beware of love

Beware of “because I love you”

Because actions speak louder than words

When someone truly loves you

They will accept you

And every flaw that follows

They will respect you

And your limits

They will keep conversations confidential

And never break your trust

They will not hurt you

Physically or mentally

They may not always make you happy

But they will never leave your side

Because when you love someone

It is deeper than a four-letter word

It is stronger than a four-word phrase

It is a healthy connection

That heals all wounds

From previously fought battles

And it ensures that any battle moving forward

Will be fought alone
