Because I Love You
On our first date, you surprised me by taking me downtown.
The twinkle light illuminating your beautiful brown eyes.
You held every door open, like it was not worthy to feel my touch.
Our hands recognized each other like they've never been held by anyone else.
We kissed in the glow of the tv playing some silly cartoon.
You didn't leave until 2 am because we couldn't detach from the hip.
Sleeping in your arms is where I've felt the most comfort.
You make me laugh, and hold me when I get swallowed by my anxiety.
We talk about everything and anything, from politics, to our future goals.
You tell me every day all day how beautiful I am, and how much you like dating me
You tell me that I ended up being the best decision ever made.
You make me feel at ease, like who I am is fully accepted.
You see through my depression.
You get me what I need, especially on days where my depression chains me to the bed.
You fuel my drive to learn, and I fuel your drive to work hard.
Your mom adores me, because she sees that we are good together.
I adore you because you make me feel like happiness and beauty were emotions I was meant to feel.
You adore me because I listen to you and I make you feel like the most special person in the world.
We adore each other because this is the first time love is truly love.
It is strong and wild, not fueled by ultimatums and anger.
Our love is free.
We care about each other, have made the decision to be what the other needs.
As a We. Not a You, Or an I.
