Because I Love You
I hope you feel free to spread your wings
and fly after your dreams.
Free to express your feelings of love or frustration
whether in a whisper or a scream.
We have different goals, ideas, and beliefs,
but that doesn’t affect our love for one another.
We make mistakes or bad decisions-it can’t be avoided,
but we learn to forgive and continue to love each other.
I will be there to hold your hand
through all your troubles and strife.
You can lean on anyone,
but I hope you choose me throughout your life.
To help, to guide, to follow or lead
never to judge or abuse or criticize.
I am a confidant or confidante
forever open for hugs, laughter, and during sad times.
Through thick and thin, in pouring rain or warm sunshine
these are things I willingly do,
My laughter, smiles, and endless mornings and nights,
all of this is because I love you.
Communication and trust is key
for without it we are lost.
With no honesty, respect, or unselfish love
the unhappiness we can cause each other is a dreadful cost.
We are peers, we are friends, we are family, too,
and our support system is ever growing and changing;
for whether we shall be in love or love each other
the freedom to be ourselves is unceasing.
Our love may be as old as time,
or fleeting as a lightning flash.
Throughout it all we find humour and light,
having fun and finding chances to laugh.
We give each other confidence and strength
to go throughout the day.
Affectionate sprawls across the couch and coffee breaks,
every moment spent with you takes my breath away.
My time with you makes me happy
and each day is something new.
I hope to have you in my life
because I love you.
