Because I Love You

I see the tears falling down your cheeks like floodwaters breaking through a damn.

I wrap my arms around you like a warm cloak of comfort, but internally a rage fire has been sparked.

The fire is fueled by night after night of 2 A.M. phone calls and heartbreaking voicemails.

But Because I Love You. I keep my mouth shut.

I keep quiet because I know that no matter what I say about him, you will always go back to him.

Because he's the one that you've decided to give your heart to.

And every night, I will hold you while you cry and whimper because once again he's with someone else.

But Because I Love you. I will let that fire burn.

Through every cell and bone in his body while he cries.

While he sits on his bed, broken down because you're with someone else.

While there are again, dams breaking on your face but this time they are tears of intense joy.

But Because I Love You.  This time I will not hold you.

This time I will let you go because for the first time, you are free.

No one will ever love you more than I do. Not him, or any man after.
