Because I Love You
"Because I love you",
it's that phrase,
that put me what I went through,
that set my young heart ablaze.
I didn't know then,
what I know now.
That you would hurt me without end,
but I would forgive you anyhow.
For you said,
"It's because I love you."
My naive heart,
my innocent mind,
would not part,
believing you were kind.
So the cycle would continue,
you hurt me,
but I still believed in you,
thinking everything would get better.
But one day it was too much,
I realized how foolish I've been,
I wanted to get away from his touch,
after being played like a violin.
I told him,
that I loved him no longer,
his face grim,
he said, "But I love you still."
I was smart then,
for I did not believe him again.
A few months later,
I met another man,
merely a waiter,
but it was with him that true love began.
He was loyal and kind,
only ever treating me right.
I am glad to have left the monster behind,
for now I have met my shining knight.
He loves me,
truly so,
with him I am free,
and I learned to let go.
