"Because I love You..."

Words that seem so endearing, are more destructive than you can imagine.

Do you really love me? Or do you love the thought of your hands on me?

What if every word you spoke was permanently stuck on my skin? For everyone to see.

To read.

I shouldn’t have to do anything “because I love you”

Because you love ME, I should get to be my own person.

What happened to respect? Communication?

I get it. The world hurts. But that doesn’t give you the right to hurt me.

You were supposed to feel like home. I don’t even know what that means anymore.

Is home a broken place? Or a safe place?

Where do I go when you “love me” so much that you put your hands on me?

When my friends ask me why I have a black eye do I tell them it’s “because you love me?”

Or do I tell them it’s because you thought I lied about going to work.

Do I tell them I don’t feel safe?

Where do I go?

I’m walking away.

Because I love myself, I’m letting go.
