Because I love You
Because I love you,
I will write the words "worth" and "wall" on your hands until they go numb
And you can feel the traced outlines of them long after I've stopped
"Worth" because you should always know yours
And "wall" to remind you of what I tore down just to be at your side
But also to leave the imprinted thought that letting your guard down will always be the most fulfilling step you could ever take
Because I love you,
I will not lift you up every time you collapse onto the bathroom floor
Instead, I will teach you to fall gracefully, take your time down there
But when you're ready to come up, how to unwind yourself and this time, stand up on your tip-toes, head high
And when you finally spring back up for light,
I will be waiting to witness what a masterpiece you are: whether it's the one lying on the cold tile or 50 feet up in the air
Because I love you,
I will imortalize you by molding your every move into words
I will craft my poems around you and compose every letter only as I see fit to match your wonder
You will become the most beautiful metaphors
The most captivating soliloquy
And I will still tell you that nothing I've ever written could possibly match up to be your equal
Nothing I create will ever be the right words
But, because I love you, I will try anyways
Because I love you,
I will watch you live your own life
And bloom into whatever flower you choose to be
I will be right here, blooming into whatever it is I need to become
I promise not to tell you which color I like best,
This way, you will turn whichever color you choose, unswayed by my opinion
I like that color, too
But most importantly,
Though I've repeated it so much in this poem and, believe me, I am more than willing to whisper it to you until your ears know nothing else,
I will demonstrate love in every way I possibly can
Compile little grains of sand until I form you a whole globe to yourself
( I know you'll want to share this globe with everyone despite the fact it is only for you, because that is who you are)
My hand will not squeeze and overwhelm
But comfort and lace perfectly with yours
Because I love you,
I will keep writing this poem depite my previous intentions to stop
I will love me because loving me means loving you
I will train you to love yourself, too
We will love others just the same, if not a little more
You will ask why and I will tell you that is the greatest strength a person could hold
Love
Because I love you,
I will show you how the sky and sea are synonymous
I won't laugh at how wrong you are until you do,
You can laugh when I'm wrong without my consent
Because I love you,
I will bring you coffee on cold days, but also on hot ones because I know you need it sometimes
Because I love you,
I will teach you how kind this world is
I will show you how kind love is
You will become love
As will the world around you
