Because I Love You

Because I love you, those words will never slip out of my lips.

At least not for now,

I save them for a day that may never come.

Surrounded by those close to us,

For some reason then will be the only time I feel safe to speak them.

You mean the world to me,

But yet I cannot say those words.

The child in me has hope,

But my exterior is banged and bruised.

I’ve seen how people have manipulated those words,

Until those three beautiful words have turned into something unrecognizable.

Old. Dead. Meaningless. Fake.

I need you to know,

That you are more than those words to me.

When I give them to you,

They will be what they were made to be.

New. Undying. Meaningful. Real.

I will wait for a day that may never come,

Because I love you.
