"Because I Love You"

Because I Love You

“Because I love you,” you say.

“Skip class,

Because I am more important.

Skip meals,

To keep your slim figure.

Listen to me and don’t speak,

Because my thoughts are important

And yours are not.

Forgive me and don’t leave,

Even though I am not sorry,

Because you shouldn’t be hurt

Again.

Stop being upset,

Because I did nothing wrong.

Compare yourself to others,

And see that you come up short,

Because you are not,

And never will be,

Enough.

Give me everything,

Because I demand it.

Because I love you.”

And because I thought I loved you,

I did.

And because you didn’t really love me,

You left.

“Because I love you,” he says.

“Please go to class,

Because I know you love to learn.

Please eat,

Because you need to keep up your strength.

Please listen and talk to me,

Because I trust you,

And I want you to know you can trust me.

Please forgive me and give me another chance,

Because I didn’t mean to hurt you,

And I promise to be better

Next time.

Please show your emotions,

Because they are valid.

Please don’t ever compare yourself to others,

And don’t you dare believe that you come up short,

Because they are not,

And never will be,

You.

Only give me what you want,

Because I will never push you too far.

Because I love you.”

Because I love him,

I hear what he says.

Because he loves me,

He hears what I say.

And because I finally love me,

I do what is best for him,

And what is best for me.

And we are happy.
