Because I Love You

Sitting in your familiar stained sweats

With a bowl of ice cream resting in your lap.

Tear stains streak your face beautiful

They stain you, making your feel like a mess.

Suddenly a rap on your dark oak door,

A loud tap, tap, tap....

You slowly rise from the human shape indent in your couch.

The half-eaten bow now rests in the side table

As you peer from the window of your door.

You peer and behold

A familiar face

Staring back at you.

Coffee brown hair down to her waist,

Deep blue eyes subtly inhance her rich beauty.

She stands there expectantly

Almost as if she knows you are looming near.

You swing the door open slowly

Immediately noting the bag grasped in her doll like hands.

Without a word

You are engulfed in brown locks, tan arms, and a slim body.

Clasping in the hug,

You feel this weight lifted.

It’s been holding you down for so long now that you feel as if you can fly.

One tear rolls down your face.

One tear, two tears.

The rest in close pursuit.

Shh…. Cooed in your ear cause the tears to keep falling.

Slowly you find your way back to the couch,

Now accompanied by another.

You lay there in her arms, open and valuable

Finally the tears cease.

Looking up you see her face, lined red from tears.

She cried with you.

Loving you more and more every second.

The first smile for months creeps on your face.

Inch by inch it grows into a broad smile.

The same one comes finds its way home on hers.

It’s your turn to initiate the hug.

You both stay there as time slows

And nothing else matters.

That’s what friends are for:

To love you in your joy,

Your fear, your depression.

To be there for you whenever you call.

To come even when you don’t.

To be a shoulder to cry on.

You done even have to talk to express the connections.

You care linked to one another,

It’s something nothing can break.

No force on earth can tear you from their grasp.

No matter where you are in your journey of life,

She will track with you.

Up the stormy mountain

And through the calm valley.

You realize as you sit with her that you will be together forever.

You will always be friends; sisters.

There isn’t even a need for words

Because you know what she would say?

That’s the best part of having a best friend.

There isn’t enough words to express your love for them.

They are there for you and you are there for them.

Though thick and thin.

“How did you know to come?” you sign without words.

“Just had a feelin’” She responds similarly.

“Why did you come?”

“Because you are my best friend!

My sister from a different mister!” she signs chuckling

With her classic innocent smile

“Even though you lost your hearing

I wasn’t going to let that separate us.

We will go through life’s journey together;

No matter what!

“I will always be there for you.

Nothing can ever stop that.

Even if you lost your sight too

And you couldn’t see me,

I would stay with you

Holding you tight to my chest.”

More tears trickle down your face.

There is no doubt the love you have for her

And the love she has for you.

You are best friends.

“I came over because I knew you needed me;

I knew you would have done the same.

I came so I could hold you.

I came because I love you.”
