Because I love you

Do you think I love watching you tackle bottle after bottle every night?

Do you think I love hearing the slurred syllables come from your stained breath?

I don't.

Do you think I love your tarnishing touch to all of our social events?

Do you think I love being reminded that my own relation is now passed on,

just because you can't handle his absence?

I don't.

See, I hate many things that you do.

I ask myself many times on why I don't just run away

Why I have not fallen through the cracks of responsibility

and into the deep end labeled "HORRIBLE CHOICES"

Day in and day out I stay here, why?

Because I love you.

Once you decide to love someone, you are choosing to love everything,

even the ugliest parts of them.

It's a commitment that takes strength, loyalty, trust, selflessness--everything.

You are the woman who carried me with her for nine months straight.

You sacrificed many things for my benefit.

You loved me, even when you were making bad decisions.

I'm not a flawlessly painted wall that is perfect "just so",

I'm chipped and faded. So is she.

If I don't love her, who will?

Love can be so taxing, annoying, and irritating.

But do you give up when it's hard?

No.

The trick to unconditionally loving someone is loving them when you don't want to.

It is your dedication.

It is that ability to suck it up and push through pain and misery,

to see happiness and joy once again.

"I love you" is not some simple sentence that everyone should use

This promise declares your heart's compassion towards someone

While your mind's decision is to accept the luggage that comes with it.

So, I am going to stay.

I will make sure you make it to bed alright, even when you're impaired.

I will stay strong for you, to hold you up when you're too weak.

I will be there to keep you company in your lonely times.

And why will I do this?

Because I love you...
