From the lie of a child

To staying out past curfew

A parent always answers

"Because I Love You"

From the puff of smoke

Leaving the chapped lips

To the constant argueing

The tears that drip

A child just living

A mother just wishing

That the child would

Stop tripping

For the mother tried so hard

To teach her child

That she wants whats best for her

To not be wild

And yet the child ignores

Scoffing, ignorant

Thinking that

Her mother was belligerent

So she elouped with her boyfriend

That her mother warned of

Claiming that their love

Had nothing to do with doves

There was bickering

There was screaming

There was hitting

Tears were streaming

A hand mark on her cheek

As her boyfriend howled

Claiming that

She should not scowl

For he did it for her benefit

Her face becoming black and blue

Her mother's words etched on his mouth
