Because I Love You, I Open Up
Stress builds, her volatile anger rises/ My sister closes up, like a beautiful tulip in the biting wind being covered
/By its own wilted pink leaves./
My petals close, my confusion wrapping me deeper into miscommunication. /
The anorexic closes up and the mother silently watches as her beloved daughter weakens./
The son battling a breakup closes up, the father passively lets him bottle bitter emotions./
The siblings close up, never to resolve years of unspoken anger,/
Hurting their families from lack of vulnerable words./
“Because I love you, I don’t spill my mess.” /Tightly clenching walls around our hearts like fists around treasure.
/But nobody heals.
/If our hearts are treasure, they are meant to be spent./
So, “Because I love you, I open up.”
