Because I love You: A True Story

Because I love you: A True Story

I’ve always loved you

Even when I didn’t know it

I was too scared to face the truth

That’s why I didn’t show it

I had never been in love before

Too scared of what I’d been waiting for

I was so hurt in the past

How could I trust that love could last?

Our friendship immerged in a different light

Never expected the love bug to bite

I didn’t even know what to do

I already cared so much for you

You told me you loved me one summer day

I had no clue what to do or say

I told you I wasn’t quite ready

To be an item, for going steady

Then you waited, patiently waited

I needed time since I was so jaded

You waited for me to make the next move

You wanted me, you had nothing to prove

Finally, I took you to our favorite place

Where we would get oreo milkshakes

I took your hands, and did the deed

I asked you if you’d go out with me

After that, the next year went on

Using donuts to spell out “PROM?”

Leaving me love notes in my locker

Still going strong, what a shocker

After graduation, we took the leap

I loved you so much, I was in so deep

I made the commitment, to be your girl

For the next 8 months, while we travelled the world

Europe, India, Thailand, Bali

Let me say, not all of it was jolly

But through it all, we stuck together

Becoming so strong, becoming better

It was so beautiful to watch you grow

You were more a man than I’d ever known

You not only took care of me, your lover

But I watched how you took care of others

And then, we came back from our trip

We went and hopped on another ship

We moved to SoCal to go to school

New fish swimming in a different pool

Now we have made new memories to treasure

Getting off of work at midnight together

Eating cereal, and watching “Friends”

Enjoying our youth, hoping it never ends

Wanting to know if I could do it on my own

I booked a trip, planning on going alone

Rather than being bitter, you cracked a smile

And told me you’d thought I should try this for awhile

You are so unselfish, you are so kind

I am so lucky I get to call you mine

You show me you love me in so many ways

You could make me happy for the rest of my days

I don’t just love your love for me

I love the parts of you not everyone sees

I love your humor, your goodness, your strength

How you’re never afraid to go the length

You are literally the best person I know

This is something I hope I show

You deserve the world, you deserve success

I want you to know I hope for nothing less

…..Because I love you
