"Because I Love You"- The Weight of Words
It’s funny, the way the same four words can be
Made to use you, made to hurt you, or used to make you happy
Why do you always bring me down?
“Because I love you,” the words that keep you bound
Why do you keep insulting me?
“Because I love you” makes it hard to see
Why do you always make me hurt?
“Because I love you” so I can treat you like dirt
Why do they hurt?
Why do they yell?
Does any of this ring a bell?
Why does it sting?
Why aren’t they listening?
“Because they love you,” or so they say
It’s true these words are misused, but can be put another way
Why don’t you leave after all I’ve done?
“Because I love you” my precious one
Why did you do all that for me?
“Because I love you” and that is key
Why do you always make me smile?
“Because I love you,” the words that help to reconcile
Why do they sacrifice?
Why do they care?
Had you been aware?
Why do they stay?
Why do they never get in your way?
“Because they love you” in a way that never ends
And this is the weight of words, my friends
They could break you, or bend you, or twist you
They could help you, hold you, or lift you
You can change someone with the words you say
For better or worse words affect one that way
So when you hear “Because I love you”
Listen for the reason too
