Because I loved you

To me, love was supposed to be this light that never died out.

This warm light that never trully brought enough heat to kill you,

but not cold enough to let you dry.

But because I loved you, I suffered through both.

The light often times suffocated my every movement,

it was as if it had no control over how much it wanted to burn me that day.

And then, the light turned a burning cold.

But because I loved you, I stayed through those lonely nights.

Because I loved you, I waited for you in that restaurant for an hour and a half.

Because I loved you, I supported the words of your mean friends.

You didn’t stop them,

I let it hurt.

But because I loved you,

I never stopped you in fear of loosing you.

I realized a little late that maybe I shouldn’t be scared,

that maybe the words I’ve been using, were in the wrong context.

And I thought...

‘Because I love you’ I’ll endure the long walks you like to do.

’Because I love you’ I’ll go to a sports game I don’t understand.

’Because I love you’ I’ll stop wearing my lipstick so that you could kiss me without the sticky feel I know you hate.

Those should’ve been my reasons,

those are healthy.

With another stream of though, ‘because I love you’,

turned into a ‘I have to let you go’.
