Because I Loved You

We talked, we laughed, we had fun,

We smiled, we made memories, we had a good run.

I relied on you and you relied on me,

It was just the two of us, no room for three.

Things got busy, things got hard, I get it,

But when things came down on me you couldn’t commit.

I trusted you I gave you my friendship,

But all you saw in me was a whip.

So you made new  friends and laughed it up,

While I actually went to class to build myself up.

I became stronger I gave you no thought,

It was almost like you were dead in my mind from a gunshot.

I pushed for our friendship too long.

Because I loved you.

I gave you my deepest secrets.

Because I loved you.

I forgave you each time you failed.

Because I loved you.

I dropped everything to help you out.

Because I loved you.

You walked away and I waited like a lost puppy.

Because I loved you.

I let you go.

Because I loved you.

But more importantly, I loved myself.

I gave myself a chance and gave it a good one for once.

You tore me down, down to the dust.

I rebuilt myself to be the best I could; I gave myself some trust.

So here I am, giving you that thought,

But only because I needed this plot.

I did so much to keep a dry friendship flowing.

But your actions were just ongoing.

I left this friendship for a good reason.

It was because I loved you,

But I loved myself for once too.
