Because I loved you, I now love me
Because I love you, I want to share our story.
Because I love you, I am willing to relive my nightmares.
It started as healthy as can be. Holding hands, saying good morning and goodnight, smiling every time we got to see each other.
Being able to be honest and tell each other everything. Showing so much compassion like it was our last goodbye every time.
Saying goodbye usually was the hardest, but for us, it was a motion of our love for each other. You would hug me so tight, grab my face and kiss me like it was our first kiss every time.
Oh, our first kiss. You were so nervous, you ended up kissing me on my cheek instead. So I looked at you, smiled and said “let’s try again”.
You had so little, and gave me all. You weren’t ok, but never had it show on your face.
We made plans for our future, everything was going so well.
One day, things started to change. You were angry and not motivated to have a life together.
Your words hurt me, your actions hurt me, and you hurt me.
I was told it was my fault that you don’t love me anymore. It was my fault that you pushed me around and it was my fault that you left.
For a while, I believed you.
Because I love you, I never knew how to love myself.
Because I love you, I became stronger than I have ever been.
Because I loved you, I now love me.
