Because of Love

Because I loved you, I wanted to spend more time with you

Because I loved you, I put up with your parents

Because I loved you, I stayed at your house when I wanted to be at home

Because I loved you, I did your chores and took care of your dog

Because I loved you, I did 15 page papers for you

Because I loved you, I ignored the voices you had in your head

Because I loved you, I let you smoke and drink to make “the pain go away”

Because I loved you, I let you cheat on me

Because I loved you, I vowed to help you, be there for you, and beat your illness

Because I loved you, I went against everything my parents told me, I fought and screamed

Because I loved you, I started to drown and I let my dreams die

Because I loved you, I wanted you to get help

Because I loved you, I took you to the hospital when you tried to harm yourself

Because I loved you, I tried to make you take your pills and see your therapist

Because I loved you, you started to hate me

Because I loved you, I couldn’t help you

Because I loved you, you took everything and when I finally had nothing left to give, you moved on

Because you loved me, you asked me to dinner and a concert

Because you loved me, you held my hand and talked with me

Because you loved me, you wanted to meet my family

Because you loved me, you read pride and prejudice to discuss the book with me

Because you loved me, you let me practice braiding your hair

Because you loved me, I wanted to become a better person

Because you loved me, I started to do well in school again

Because you loved me, I became confident in myself

Because you loved me, I believed in myself again

Because you loved me, I wanted to give again

Because you love me, I love you and myself
