Because Love (?)
Is your seatbelt buckled in?
Did you eat enough?
Did you find the time to sleep?
Can you promise you won’t give up?
The people leaving purple bruises
Try to chain your mind.
They aren’t the people worthy of
Your love, your life, your time.
Relationships exist in moments
Fragmented and brittle.
A healthy match is one that
Makes you feel alive, not little.
Love is freely given out,
Not judged for or demanded.
Free will is yours and yours alone,
Not to be taken or commanded
By the one you thought you loved, or do?
Don’t ask the question, “why?”
If you do, you’ll hear a shout
And maybe realize
That the love you built your life around
Is too weak to hold a home
And the person you once thought was perfect
Leaves you feeling alone.
Real love is shown in phrases like,
“I hope you got home safe.”
The friends who hold you tight
To comfort, cherish, save, not break.
Because cracks appear when demons yell
And throw glass on the wall.
That love you once pretended
Is forcing you to crawl
Away because you simply cannot
Stand in the face of truth
Without admitting that that love you thought
Was a phantom dream of youth.
Naive plaguing discontent
Tell me, tell me what it meant?
What should you hear to prove the love you have is strong within?
Is it “Don’t you dare be yourself” or “Is your seatbelt buckled in?”?
