Because They Loved Me

My father ached from a labored day,

all his hopes and energy slowly faded away,

when I asked why he said, “because I love you.”

My mother cried as I stood on the stage,

grasping on my trophy I gave her a puzzled face,

when I asked her why she said, “because I love you.”

My sister giggled and chuckled away,

she tickled and tickled me when I was having a tough day,

when I asked why she said, “because I love you.”

I smile and I live life fully every single day,

regardless of the obstacles and hurdles coming my way,

and when people ask why I say, “because they loved me.”
