Because of you
Because of you
I have a future to behold
Youve made me believe in who I am
I am now bold
What would I do without you here
Probably be scared and have alot of fear
Because of you
I'm not lost in finding who I wanna be vs who I should be
Because you saw the good in me
You never gave up hope to see me rise one day
Rise and speak up and say
I am somebody
Im not a nobody
Because of you
I can finally breathe
Have some sense of relieve
Open up my heart and mind to see
How without you I would be so naive
Because of you
I can finally be free
Who feels me up to be
A person who's not afraid of being themself
And feeling free of negativity
So I can get back on the righ road of my creativity
You are the light to my darkness
You are the heart to my beat
Now truly I feel complete
Because of you
So thank you activist that fought for us to be free
Free from oppression free from such cruelty that prevented me from being me
Because I was scared to even walk down the street to school because of my skin color being black
Knowing that they would probably check my backpack
For weapons thinking just because I’m black I want violence or a fight
Thats not the case so please don’t judge me or refer to me as “that black person or that nigger”
Like I’m armed and I’m about to pull the trigger
what gun do I have the only weapon I have is my voice which I intend to you to say
Im here because of people like Rosa parks and Martin Luther king who fought so we can have our way
So I say thank you to them and to the people that are allies that don’t want to see us dead or in jail too
This would have never happened without powerful words and determination
Because of you
