Because You Loved Me

When you were in school you thought you met the love of your life.

When you found her with her wrists wide open you shut yourself off to love.

When you were older and getting to the age your parents started bugging you,

When you realized you won't be young forever,

You looked for love.

I was waiting for you, sitting there pretty like the shiniest apple in the store.

You told me you couldn't love, but if you could, you would love me.

When we planned out our lives, understanding each other better than we understood ourselves,

I never wanted our relationship to end.

Good things never last.

You were scared that you loved me,

So every hurtful word crawled under my skin and made my stomach flip when you would call.

They told me to leave you but I couldn't.

I had found the love of my life.

You made it easy when you disappeared, I would wait up for hours for you to call.

Then it was over.

Then I decided I would never love again.

When you came back it hurt me worse than when you left.

Now I ache as I keep myself from trying to regain my love for you.
