Because you loved me

Screaming and yelling in my ear,

that I am no good and do not belong here.

But because you loved me,

you gave me an apology and affection.

In hopes that I would erase it all,

but yet again you would push me and I would fall.

But because you loved me,

you kneeled at my feet and cried.

You asked me why I wanted to leave,

and I simply told you I do not believe

in love where bruises and tears are okay.

But because you loved me,

you bought me gifts and flowers.

These did not hide all the scars you gave,

nor did it ever make me cave.

But because you loved me,

I said goodbye as I needed to save myself

from drowning in your lies and deceit.

I left you,

because I loved myself enough to leave.
