#becauseiloveyou
One.
His fingers shake like trees stuck in a hurricane,
My throat closes around three words
Eight letters.
unspeakable.
Slowly, he brushes a strand of hair behind my ear
Slowly, warm lips press to frozen skin
This is how he says I love you.
Two.
My car is idling,
A monster ready to sweep away the princess
Away from her tower in the castle,
Long hair let down at last.
My grandfather, My protector
A King in a collared shirt and blue jeans
Wipes his hands on a oil soaked rag - closes the hood and walks away.
This is how he says I love you.
Three.
My fair haired sister is a fairy in disguise,
Innocence eats at every smile, every gesture
Play is a thing not yet forbidden,
She comes to my room -
Askes to take our bikes on an adventure
Perhaps through a rainforest, Perhaps to the moon
When I agree, she shouts with glee - golden curls falling into her eyes as she turns,
and runs.
This is how she says I love you.
Four.
Text me when you make it home safe.
I'm taking your keys, you're staying here.
How are you doing?
I know today was a rough day.
My friends are an armory
Built to weather me against the storm
These are the ways they say I love you.
Five.
My grandmother is a flower
Albeit sometimes withering
Pretty as a picture is the saying,
A Queen stuck in rags
under appreciated
I come home,
Tuck my legs into her favorite chair
Her hands begin to pat my back
I ask why do you do so much?
She says,
because i love you.
