To Become the Fire
Staring into the amber abyss,
My eyes became alight with desire,
Heat embraced my face and gave a kiss,
I wanted to become the fire.
The crackling yellow blaze sparked in my mind,
Hands danced around the inferno ready to inspire,
The warm light was both risky and kind,
I wanted to become the fire.
One day I flew too close to the sun,
The world over thought me a liar,
He had stolen my dream and I was done,
I wanted to become the fire.
I pursued the burning thief,
Chased him to the verge of my dreams, the spire,
Without the flame and overcome with grief,
I needed to become the fire.
I stopped the destruction of an empire,
His inferno strangled me to my knees,
I needed to become the fire,
But the fire became me.
