Becoming Learned

Momma tried to teach me,

She wanted a better life for me,

Than the one that was given to her,

But the life she lived,

Was different than the words she spoke,

Abuse could not be hidden with smiles.

I was taught to fear,

To flea,

To submit,

Never to disagree,

Never to feel.

One day momma couldn't take it,

She ran from him,

And I ran from her.

I was Confused, Concerned, Disconnected from the world,

And then I met you.

You didn't make me happy,

But happiness happened when I was with you.

I didn't depend on you,

But you were dependable and strong.

Your hugs were home when home didn't exist.

You were your own person,

And I was mine,

But together we were something more.

We discovered what life often hides,

The sweetest feelings we didn't know could be felt.

Best friends was our title,

You were my bud,

My go-to-guy,

My one phone call.

And I was yours.

Time passed without worry,

Moments became memories,

And we didn't mind because we were together.

We were best friends forever,

And then suddenly, randomly, out of the blue,

We were more than that

I had been taught to fear,

To flee,

To submit,

Never to disagree,

But with you, I was taught LOVE.
