Becoming Me
I’m not the same person I was, even just a decade ago
I used to have brown curls coiled atop my head
Now I have long dark hair that I have to tie up before I go to bed.
I’m not the same person I was, even just five years ago
I was fearful to be myself, discouragement by what others may think
Now I own my awkwardness, relish the quirkiness and care less about the opinions that still sometimes color me pink.
I’m not the same person I was, even just three years ago
I colored in my eyebrows dark, slothered my eyelashes with two-coats of mascara and covered my blemishes with a temporary fix.
Now I embrace my flaws as best that I can, and attempt to be patient although that and me don’t always mix.
I’m not the same person I was, even just a year ago
I was nervous for what the future holds, dreading being ripped from all I know
Now I am thankful for having to let go, experiencing new things and becoming more of this person you now know.
I'm not the same person I was, even just the day before
So how can I possibly guess what more could be in store
We are all changing everyday and just know that it’s okay
Because time passes, people come and go,
But you determine just how far you grow.
